Instructional Systems Designer

Minimum Qualification : Bachelor’s Degree
Job Location : Vienna, VA/Newport News, VA/Oklahoma City, OK

Summary:

Supports instructional system design activities of systematically transferring principles, concepts and best practices of learning and instruction for training materials and activities by analyzing the problem, designing a specification, developing the courseware, implementing the solution, and performing evaluations throughout the process.

Essential Functions:

  • Apply expertise in conducting learning needs analyses and design and develop practical learning solutions rapidly using the latest innovations in instructor-led and virtual instructor-led online, mobile, and social learning while also supporting key technology projects to organize and delivery training content in a highly integrated and cohesive manner
  • Handle supervisory duties and vendor management responsibilities, as assigned, leverage deep comprehension of available industry recognized content across the spectrum of learning and development service offerings, and make recommendations that align with the effective and efficient use of resources to deliver practical solutions
  • Collaborate and share best practices with colleagues from across L&D, SIG, and HC&L in the design and development of learning programs, including the standardization of models, processes, and tools and apply sound instructional design principles, processes, and methodologies to author content directly or oversee the development of content by external vendors
  • Implement and integrate new and existing learning technologies and delivery methods, including ILT, vILT, online learning, Webcasts, mobile, social, video, microlearning, and authoring tools
  • Identify the most appropriate methods to maximize learning and user engagement
  • Adhere to effective project intake and management for the development of project plans, including key milestones and deliverables, while leading and supporting a range of learning technology and systems integration projects
  • Manage day-to-day curriculum or program management and maintenance activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in a progressive learning and development field
  • 5+ years of experience with the design, development, and delivery of experiential learning courses and programs, including online, instructor-led, and virtual
  • 3+ years of experience with supporting learning technology projects, including PM and functional support, system and data integrations, and LMS enhancements
  • Experience with sourcing, managing, and leading external vendors
  • Experience with mobile and social learning, including authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline and Captivate and development standards, such as HTML5, AICC, SCORM, and Tin Can API
  • Knowledge of games, game design, and gaming systems, including leaderboards, achievements, and micro-transactions
  • Knowledge of the digital space, including information architecture, responsive design and development, mobile applications, digital marketing, Section 508 and accessibility, social media, and video
  • Ability to display leadership in a collaborative and matrix environment, directly manage others, build consensus, and quickly establish solid cross-functional relationships
  • Ability to apply learning design principles and adult learning theory to create instructionally sound course content and documentation, including design documents, storyboards, art style guides, and learning objectives
  • BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with developing training content necessary within a consulting environment, including business development skills, soft skills, finance, and ethics and compliance
  • Experience with Adobe CC, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Experience with facilitation
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional role within a large, complex organization
  • Instructional Design Certification

Working Conditions:

  • Functions are primarily performed in an office setting. Must be able to remain in a stationary position working at a computer at least 50% of the time. Must be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Must be able to communicate with customers via phone, email and in person.
