C² COLLABORATES ON FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY ADMINISTRATION REPORT FOR PRESENTATION AT SUMMIT ON DISTRACTED DRIVING
(VIENNA, VA – October 1, 2009) C² Technologies, Inc. played an instrumental role in the development of the “Driver Distraction in Commercial Vehicle Operations” report presented at the Federal Government’s Summit on Distracted Driving held from September 30 through October 1. The report, requested by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), is an important early step in the Obama Administration’s efforts to curb dangerous distractions engaged in by motor vehicle operators.
Associated research was conducted between July 2007 and July 2009, after FMCSA commissioned the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) to conduct a study on driver distraction in commercial vehicle operations. The ensuing webinar for FMCSA officials detailing the preliminary results yielded enthusiastic interest on the part of government stakeholders to view the as-yet-unpublished full report, and to hold a summit to discuss and address driver distraction issues. C² staff worked closely with VTTI personnel to prepare the document, and provided technical editing and Section 508 conversion services for the finished product.
The Section 508-compliant version of the report was completed on September 24th, and awaits publication on the FMCSA website, www.fmcsa.org. A four-page Tech Brief, which serves as FMCSA’s official summary of the full 285-page report, can be viewed here.
