USDLA Presents “Platinum Award” to C˛ Technologies, Inc. During Conference
VIENNA, VA (May 8, 2007) – The United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) presented C² Technologies, Inc. with its prestigious “Platinum Award” for Programming of Web-Based Distance Learning at the USDLA conference in Kansas City, MO on May 7, 2007. The recognition cited C²’s work with the Virtual Mobile Training Team (VMTT), which delivers synchronous and asynchronous training to soldiers in real-time in the battlefield, along with instructor support from military bases in the United States.
USDLA’s Global Awards are presented annually to organizations and individuals engaged in the development and delivery of distance learning programs. Included in the recognition ceremony were awards for 21st Century Best Practice, Best Practice for Distance Learning Programming, Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching, Outstanding Leadership by an Individual, Hall of Fame and Eagle Awards.
C²’s award-winning efforts began when the U.S. Army’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) tasked the company to develop VMTT to allow just-in-time training of soldiers anywhere they’re located when new instructional needs are determined. The final result was a blended approach that trains soldiers in Iraq in real-time, using existing deployable digital learning classrooms and training capabilities, as well as highly interactive learning tools such as 3-D scenarios. The entire initiative was completed in 90 calendar days, a fraction of TRADOC’s customary 12-18 month courseware development cycle.
The VMTT courseware has delivered profound benefits to America’s fighting force, by not only reducing the expense and improving the efficiency of training delivery, but by maximizing the Army’s existing instructional resources, and providing its soldiers the most engaging and effective learning environment possible—and as soon as it’s needed. The VMTT project has been featured on NBC-TV Channel 4 in Washington, DC for its innovative approaches to learning on the battlefield.
The USDLA Awards were created to acknowledge major accomplishments in distance learning and to highlight those distance learning instructors, programs, and professionals who have achieved and demonstrated extraordinary results through the use of online, videoconferencing, satellite and blended learning delivery technologies. In addition, this year’s awardees will be listed in the July 2007 edition of "Distance Learning Today," a quarterly supplement in USA TODAY. "Distance learning is transforming the American educational landscape, through on-line technology, video conferencing systems, satellite delivery and other media," said Dr. John G. Flores, CEO of USDLA. "We expect this supplement to be an invaluable guide for millions of present and potential distance learners as well as a means for our awards winners, member institutions and corporate sponsors to reach them."
